How to get a University of London LLB (Hons) while staying in Pakistan?


University of London is approximately 160 years old prestigious institute situated in the UK that offers 3-year LLB (Hons) around the world. Pakistan is one of the many lucky countries where this opportunity is available for students interested in pursuing a career in law. The degree is being offered here in Pakistan since past 25 years (approximately) and the number of successful alumni is growing tremendously with each year.

How can you start your journey towards getting this prestigious LLB (Hons), a Qualifying Law Degree, to become a successful lawyer?

Generally, to qualify for the University of London LLB, you will need to be be aged 17+ by the date of registration and satisfy the University of London’s general requirements as below:

1) Two A-level passes (A-E) AND atleast 5 O-level passes, 3 of which must be graded at least a C in non-overlapping subjects.

2) Three A-level passes if you do not have an O-level

3) If you have a Pakistanin intermediate qualification (FA/FSc), you may be eligible with Two A-level passes (grades A-E)

4) If you have Pakistani Intermediate (FA/FSc) or Matriculation and do not have an A-level, you will be required to do a Foundation year (typically 8-9 months)

5) If you have a 2-year BA or another Bachelor, you may be eligible for Standard Entry admission into the LLB.

6) If you have a four years Bachelor’s degree, you may be eligible for a Graduate Entry Route LLB admission. In this case, the degree duration will be of approximately two years instead of the regular three years.

Each application is considered on an individual basis. If you do not have the standard requirements, University of London LLB Admissions Panel will consider factors such as alternative or incomplete qualifications (e.g. diplomas / degrees) and relevant work experience.

Although University of London LLB degree is being offered in Pakistan for the last 25 years and has since produced exceptional lawyers and judges, you will still find people of old-mindset in your surroundings (hint: older family friends) who might invoke doubt in you. While making the decision, always remember that University of London is recognised by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and University of London LLB is recognised by the Pakistan Bar Council.

Choose a college that trains you in advanced skills instead of just focusing on the content material.

Many students make the mistake of choosing a law college that is solely focused on academic grades or some choose a college by looking at the building. It may sound cliche but never judge a book by its cover. When looking for law colleges, look for a place that will ultimately prepare you to be a polished lawyers with advanced legal skills. Law Clinics and other experiential learning activities in a law school should play an important role in your decision making. After all, you are entering profession that is 100% skill based.

Find mentors who have done this degree and are successful in their careers.

Finally, look around and talk to your seniors who have gone through the University of London LLB themselves and now are running a successful career.
